Lloydy Signs Off In Style

Lloydy Signs Off In Style

David Ross23 Jun - 12:07

Daniel leads Wellington victory in final game.

Saturday's victory over Sentinel was Daniel Lloyd's final game for Wellington before moving to Australia. True to form, he hit an effortless 113 and picked up four wickets, including a match-clinching caught and bowled.

Lloydy's performances this year are a key driver behind the 1st XI's perfect start to the season. His 563 runs, including three centuries, and 22 wickets speak to a player currently at the very top of his game in 2025 - and one who will leave big shoes to fill.

Stepping into senior cricket as an outstanding talent at just 11 years of age, Daniel quickly rose through the ranks at the club, showing himself capable of making match-winning contributions with bat and ball - and in the field.

Like everybody, Daniel had his ups and downs on the field, both for Wellington and Shropshire, who he also went on to represent, but he always showed a characteristic level head in his response to shifting fortunes.

In 2023, he was captain of a Wellington side which made history by winning the Shropshire league and cup double, securing the club's first ever national title, and clinching promotion to the Birmingham League in dramatic fashion.

But most importantly, Daniel has been a key part of the close group of mates that make up our 1st XI group in recent seasons. He has always shown himself willing to step up and help the club off the field, and has set the standard in terms of his attitude to training and improvement, and the spirit in which he plays the game.

Thank you Lloydy - you've been a fantastic servant to Wellington over your 300 games. Good luck in Australia and all the best for the future.
