Weekend Summary

Wellington were soundly beaten after a testing trip to Harborne, where Tejas Wagle smashed a ton. But there was better news for the 2nd XI who completed a crushing 120-run win over Ellesmere, despite finding themselves 57-5 in the first innings. The 3rds came very close to upsetting Broseley at home after a flurry of late wickets, but the visitors just edged it by two wickets. Allscott Heath II beat the 4th XI by four wickets in Saturday’s other fixture. On Sunday, the 5th XI smashed 236-4 to overcome Alberbury III; whilst the friendly team lost on the road at Church Stretton.

PerformanCE of the Weekend

Mark Downes smashed 110 off just 83 balls for the 5th XI to put his team on the route to victory at Orleton Park on Sunday. He’s still got it!


Matthew Morris was the outstanding youngster of the weekend, hitting a first 2nd XI half century for the club. His unbeaten 74 rescued his side from a sticky situation to set up a big win.

Honourable Mentions

  • Faheem Chohan took three wickets with the new ball for the 1st XI as he continued his good start to the season.
  • Meanwhile Dan Vaughan (77) and Matty Simmonds (40) continue to lead the way for the club with the bat.
  • Lewis Gough (33) offered superb support to Morris in the 2nd XI match, as the pair shared an 83-run 8th wicket partnership.
  • Harjot Singh (46 and 3-39) was the best performer for the 3rd XI this week, whilst it was great to welcome Owais Abdul (2-41) back to the club.
  • Shehan Gunawardena (45) and Jay Downes (3-35) also made strong contributions to their sides this weekend.
  • U13 Lewis Stinson made his debut for the Friendly XI and claimed 2-22. Well bowled youngster – not much further to overtake Uncle Matt!

Elsewhere In The Club

  • Wellington U16 Girls got their season underway last week with a 22-run win against Wem. Well played girls!
  • Our U13 Tigers came out on top against Lilleshall by just one run last week! A real nipper.
  • Raffay Bhatti (31) top scored for the U15 Colts on Monday, but the team lost by six wickets to Church Eaton. Meanwhile, the Stags ran out quick and comfortable winners at Madeley. Kevin Mathew, Elliot Peregrine and Ross McDermott all collected two wickets as the hosts were bowled out for 57.
  • Pictured below, the Foxes, our Incrediball side who played so well on the big pitch on Sunday morning, losing a close match by just 12 runs.

Looking Forward

  • Wellington are in junior cup action this week. The U15s host Oswestry on Wednesday night, whilst the U13s entertain Codsall on Thursday. Come along and support the teams if you can!
  • Wellington 1st XI will host Shifnal in the Quarter Final of the BDPCL T20 Challenge Cup at 6pm on Tuesday 18th June. The winner will make it to finals day, so come along and enjoy the match and lend the guys your support!
  • It’s Vice Presidents Lunch this Saturday with supporters of the club coming along to enjoy a four-course meal and the 1st XI match against Kidderminster. Enjoy your day all!
