Week 20: Lloyd Ruins Cricket Match Dan Lloyd picked up eight wickets and struck a century at Allscott.
Wellington enjoyed a convincing win at near neighbours Allscott Heath on Saturday as Dan Lloyd put in a terrific individual performance. The flame-haired all-rounder contributed 112 with the bat in the first innings before following that up with a stunning spell of 8-58 in the second dig. The missing wickets were collected by his captain Wendell Wagner (2-54) as Wellington defended a big first innings score of 314-5. James Flynn (61), Luke Goring (29), Tom Masters (28) and Wagner (28*) provided the undercard for Lloyd. Allscott hit 161 in reply.
The 2nd XI hosted Shifnal 2nds at Orleton Park, but were edged out by the Division One high fliers. Dan Vaughan (67) held the Wellington innings together with support from Sam Lloyd (21) and Sam Jackson (31). Their efforts got their team to 188-9 batting first. In reply, Shifnal enjoyed a solid start and ascended comfortably to their target for the loss of five wickets and with three overs remaining. Mark Bissell hit an unbeaten fifty whilst Hamza Bhatti claimed 3-62.
Wellington 3rds enjoyed a straightforward win on their travels at Welshpool. The Welsh side were dismissed for just 88 as the visiting bowlers excelled. Indy Dhaliwal, Ben Pilkington, Lewis Gough and Harjot Singh all picked up a brace of wickets. Dan Ashton (41*) and Ian Murphy (29*) helped their side overcome a shaky start to win the match by seven wickets.
Column provided the opposition for the 4th XI in their home match in Division Five. The Shrewsbury side posted a formidable total of 241-7 in their 40 overs as Nadeem Chohan (2-57) returned the best bowling figures. Matt Pitchford (36) and Duncan Taylor (25) enjoyed a decent second wicket partnership, but once that was broken the result was in little doubt. Wellington were bowled out for just 164 with seven balls remaining.
On Sunday, the 5th XI picked up a big win at Pontesbury III – running out victors by ten wickets. The home side were dismissed for just 99 runs, before Kumar Singh (50*) and Akhil Srinivasan (20*) steered their side to victory. Wellington spinners Andy Parkyn (4-29) and Umad Hussain (4-23) did the damage with the ball.
Finally, a Wellington XI made their way to Brewood for a Sunday friendly to complete the weekend’s fixtures. Asad Sarfaraz hit 50 as the visitors posted a total of 142. It proved to be a little short after as the Staffordshire side reached their target for the loss of just three wickets, two of which were collected by Sarfaraz (2-13).
