Wagner Calls Time On Captaincy

January 24, 2022 News

Wendell Wagner will be stepping down as Wellington’s 1st XI captain at the upcoming AGM.

Owing to increased work commitments, and after discussions with the Cricket Committee, the South African born all-rounder has decided the time is right to hand over the reins to a new candidate.

Wendell will however continue playing and remains a key member of our 1st XI squad moving forward.

Wellington Cricket Club would like to thank Wendell for his dedicated service in the role since he succeeeded Anthony O’Connor in 2012.

That decade has provided many highlights for the team, but perhaps none more so than Wagner leading the club to the SCCL Premier Division title in 2020 after defeating Quatt in the grand final.

The Cricket Committee has unanimously nominated Wendell’s vice-captain Daniel Lloyd as their choice for 1st XI captain and his name will now be put forward at the upcoming AGM.
