Become A Cricket Umpire or Scorer in 2024!

Ahead of the 2024 season, Wellington Cricket Club is looking for additional umpires and scorers for our Shropshire County Cricket League sides – 2nd XI, 3rd XI, 4th XI, and 5th XI.

Umpires and scorers are crucial to the grassroots game and we are constantly looking to find new candidates who can officiate our matches. Without officials, there is no game!

We would love to speak to anyone inside or outside of the club who might be interested in finding out more about becoming a cricket umpire or a cricket scorer.

No experience is necessary and there are no barriers in terms of age or background. Matches take place on Saturdays or Sundays and we are looking for anyone who can commit for anywhere from a handful of games right to a full season.

In the case of scoring, this is a great opportunity for youngsters at the club to develop their knowledge of the game and their numeracy skills. Many of our adult players were scorers in their younger years – it’s a great way to get involved in league cricket!

We pay matchday expenses to umpires and scorers and also cover the costs of any training courses that may be required to develop your knowledge and skills.

Training for umpires involves a short pre-season course (dates and venue for 2024 TBC). For scorers there are a range of online courses and resources available, which can be done for free in your own time. The Shropshire Association of Cricket Officials and the club will assist you in getting the training required.

Any interested parties should contact Dave Morris on 07530 352334.
