A New Partnership with Telford Crisis Support
Wellington Cricket Club and the charity Telford Crisis Support have begun to combine their efforts at a time of increasing hardship for many families in the local area.
The new partnership has been brought about by club member Sam Lloyd, who has made generous donations to both Telford Crisis Support – a local food bank – and Wellington Cricket Club’s Covidfund – a fundraising initiative to help the club through the current pandemic.
Telford Crisis Support’s activities have come under increasing demand since the coronavirus crisis struck. Since January, referrals to the food bank are up by 73 percent, whilst over 13,000 meals were distributed throughout Telford in April. They are actively looking for new donations and volunteers to help them match the increase in demand.
As part of a new ongoing partnership, Wellington Cricket Club will display an advertising board around their first team pitch to raise awareness of the foodbank and encourage members to support its work. The club will also host a new donation point where food and toiletries can be left by members and local people.
Club members are asked to get behind this community initiative and donate any unwanted food they might have to those in real need. Furthermore, they are encouraged to seek and co-ordinate donations from family, friends and neighbours for extra impact.
Donations can be left in the large blue plastic container on the benches under the pavilion balcony.
