Wellington IVs were not assured of their survival in Division Five going into a daunting fixture away at Broseley. Only a victory could guarantee their place for next season or captain Alex Brasenell would be left sweating on other results. Mercifully for the skipper, his players turned in a fantastic performance to earn a five-wicket win.

The hosts were restricted to a total of 140 all out in the 38th over with Rich Atherden (4-46) threatening with the new ball and Kumar Singh (3-10 off 10 overs) squeezing the life out of the middle order.

In what was sure to be a nervy chase, Wellington found a cool head in Duncan Taylor (40) whose openers’ knock was just what was required. Kevin Vaughan (32) and Ed Bushnell (17*) combined to complete the job as their side picked up maximum points and gained two places in a tight division, finishing the season in eighth position.
