Wellington III also had a memorable final day – although perhaps not in the way they would have liked.
Promotion-chasing Ludlow II batted first in this one and racked up a bruising total of 300-4 in 40 overs. William Wood (90), Luke Hicks (64) and Scott Kemsley (57*) all enjoyed batting in the warm September sun; the Wellington bowlers, however, may need the winter to recover.
After tea, the hosts were reeling on 52-5 at one stage before Matt Earley took it upon himself to lead a counter-attack. His explosive hundred – the club’s third of the season – helped Wellington save face as they finished on 188 all out.
Nevertheless, Simon Topper’s side have enjoyed a solid season and end the campaign in fifth in Division Three.
