Important: Expanded Training Opportunities
Over the past few weeks, Wellington Cricket Club has been offering supervised net practice for one-on-one and same-family groups. Take-up for these sessions has been strong and we all owe a debt of gratitude to our coaches who have given up their time to supervise the nets and allow the facility to be open.
ECB guidelines have now been relaxed in line with UK government policy (from groups of two to six) and allow recreational cricketers to train in groups of up to six, which will mean up to five players and one coach.
Wellington Cricket Club will be looking to make the most of the expanded scope for training in order to deliver opportunities for junior and senior members over the coming weeks.
We are of course restrained by the availability of coaches and space and the ability to keep all sessions socially distant, but the Cricket Committee have been able to put together a schedule with dedicated training windows for juniors in all age categories and of course our men’s, women’s and Academy squads.
The Booking Process
It will not be possible to book your own group session at this stage, or to arrive without having booked in advance. Rather, all sessions will be strictly administered by your relevant captain, coach or junior admin. Somebody will be in contact over the next few days. Please bear with us on this: we have over 150 paid-up playing members to speak to.
You will be informed of the available time windows for training for you or your child and given the opportunity to book in for a session through your contact. Unfortunately, there is a capacity limit on all sessions but the new schedule has been designed to offer as much access as possible and our volunteers will ensure that places are assigned on an equitable basis.

You will be asked to bring your own cricket ball, or suitable ‘soft ball’ – your coach or captain will inform you which to bring to your sessions.
Please remember when batting not to touch the ball – you should use your bat to gently tap the ball back towards the bowler always ensuring you maintain the two metre social distance
We will be constantly reviewing how these sessions operate each week and we will keep everyone up to date with any amendments that we make.
