Ground Support During Wet Weather Are you able to pitch in and help?

With a record amount of cricket to be played at Wellington this summer, the ground staff are under more pressure than ever before to prepare and maintain the playing facilities at the club. This is particularly challenging in periods of wet weather like the one we are currently experiencing.

We therefore require more volunteers to get involved – not all the time, but at crucial moments when extra hands are needed. We are not asking for help preparing the pitches, but with the more simple tasks of getting covers and ground-sheets on and off the field – and mopping up water after showers. It will always be supervised by one of the ground staff so anyone should be able to assist. Nevertheless, this is vital work and can be the difference between getting games on and off.

As such, groundsman Steve Gough has asked the club to create an Emergency Ground Support Group. This will take the form of a WhatsApp group where Steve and the other groundsmen can call on volunteers at short notice to get to the club and put on covers or sheeting or remove them. Ideally we would have as many players, parents and other helpers as possible in the group so that no matter when the help is needed, we have a good chance of getting enough people down to the ground to pitch in.

If you are happy to be added to this group and pitch in when available and required, please text David Ross on 07545 348068.
