Covidfund: We got there! Thanks to an unbelievable effort from our members and beyond, we hit our target.
Back in May Wellington Cricket Club set itself the target of raising £10,000 over the summer to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on our operations – the Covidfund.
We can now reveal that thanks to an unbelievable effort from our members, sponsors, and generous well-wishers, we have successfully beaten that target. It has been a huge undertaking and the sum is made up of contributions of all sizes – from those who supported the Online Bar and lockdown Quiz Nights, to those who refused the rebate on their membership fees, to those who made substantial personal or business donations. Sadly there are far too many to list here, but we are so grateful to every one of you.
In reaching our £10,000 target, we will be able to pledge 10% of this total to Severn Hospice and The Teenage Cancer Trust. These are two charities we support on an annual basis and it is terrific that we will be able to do so again in spite of the challenges of this year. They too have been having a hard time.
Thanks to everyone’s fundraising efforts, the club has successfully offset most of the pandemic losses for this summer and for our financial year ending 30 September.
However, it should be made clear that the cancellation of Fireworks this November means the loss of our key fundraiser for the 2020/21 year. Coupled with the likelihood of social distancing over the winter and into next year, the impact of the crisis will continue to be felt for some time.
For now though, we can afford to give ourselves a big pat on the back for a job well done on the Covidfund. It really has shown the club in its very best light and we are indebted to those who contributed in these uncertain times.
