Academy Expands For 2020

Following on from detailed discussions amongst our Academy Coaches we are delighted to be able to confirm our Academy will be expanding for the current season.

We will be launching our Talented Player Program, which is specifically aimed at the U11s – U13s boys age group, with all current county and district players at the club automatically qualifying for the program. Head Coach Ross Edwards will be in touch with all eligible players shortly.  The program will be initially run over a minimum of six Monday nights during the season and will utilise both the Academy coaching team and the Quintic Video Analysis system. All equipment utilised by the full Academy will also be utilised to ensure maximum benefits in terms of development.

The U14 -U19 boys age group will continue with the main Academy program throughout the season, primarily running on Sunday mornings with ALL county age group cricketers at the Club automatically invited to these sessions.  These sessions will be run by Head Coach Ross Edwards alongside assistants Nigel Davies, Norman Ross, Steve Moules and Steve Lamb.

During the early season, work on red ball skills will be a priority in readiness for the upcoming Wellington fixtures but also for those players who will be playing white ball cricket elsewhere they will also practice their white ball skills. The importance placed on fielding skills will also be significant, with the Bola Fielding Machine getting a lot of use in the early weeks of the season!

The use of the Quintic system will be extended to both practice sessions and some of matches during the season to measure the progress of those TPP and Academy players involved.

A small number of Academy players will also undertake a number of one to one sessions with our Head Coach – these will be focused at different points during the season with a small number of players who are either in our first team squad who are getting close to being in our first team squad.

As you may have seen, all the club’s current U14s to U19s had the chance to assess their techniques on the Quintic Video Analysis system recently.  We are continually looking to increase the amount and quality of the coaching available to all the clubs junior players. Further information on these developments will be available at our Junior Information Evening on Thursday 19th March.
