Thirds Advance In Cup
By David Ross
Wellington 3rd XI claimed a 21-run victory against Shifnal under leadened skies on Thursday evening.
Wellington batted first and registered 140 for 4 in their 20 overs thanks to a fine start by Ben Gould (49).
Matthew Dickenson (33 not out) maintained the momentum for his side and left Shifnal with a difficult chase on a slow pitch in failing light.
Shifnal's reply began badly. They were reduced to 4-2 after a run-out and an early wicket for Sam Topper.
Wellington shelled several catches that would have put the game to be: two from stand-in skipper Dave Ross and one that hit regular captain Steve Pitchford square on the nose!
In the end though, Wellington had enough and Matthew Dickenson's 3 for 27 took the sting out the run-chase in the second half of the innings.
Wellington proceed to the second round of the LYNX Shropshire Slam.
