Oi Oi - Pitchy's Men Remain Unbeaten!
Saturday saw a convincing victory for Wellington 3rds seeing off their opponents Iscoyd and Fenns Bank at Iscoyd Park.
With the weather forecast stating rain showers for the afternoon, an important toss was won by Pitchy, giving Wellington the opportunity to bowl first, with the game reduced to 40 overs per side. Fine opening spells from youngsters Ben Pilkington (0/20 off 7) and Alex Harris (3/12 off 7) contained Iscoyd to just over two an over for the first 14/15 overs. A burst of three quick wickets by young Harris strengthened Wellington’s start, one of the wickets coming from a stunning Ian Murphy catch! He ended up running 20 yards backwards to take the catch over his head ending up flat of his back with ball in hand. Change of bowling saw the return of Gary Davies (1/21 off 9) and another devastating bowling spell by the unusually quiet and subdued leg spinner Owais Abdul whose spell of 5/32 off 11 overs bamboozled and bewildered the opposition batsmen. Matt Dickenson mopped up the innings (1/7 off 2) leaving Iscoyd all out for 101 off just 36 overs.
Wellington needing 102 off 44 overs started in typically electrifying fashion. Rich Benting smashing four sixes in the first six overs (one massive hit clearing the tree) after Iscoyd surprisingly opened with a spinner! Before Tug departed for rampant 36 there was the highlight of him being dropped by an Iscoyd fielder just as a wedding party of a hundred plus people where having photos taken, they then heckled and jeered the fielder for the drop. Smasher, Al Taylor, Dan Pilkington and Smurf quickly followed Tug back to the pavilion before Dicko (17*) and Pitchy (11*) saw the 3rds over the winning line with over 20 overs still to play.
Good all round team performance which now means two wins from two games and home game vs. Tibberton on the horizon.
