Win No 9 after a struggle . . .
The middle to late order came to Wellington’s rescue at Leamington as the 1st XI notched a 9th victory of the season with a narrow two-wicket win.
Match report by Pete Byram
Ross Aucott (top scorer with 32), Martin Delaney (30) and Matt Tilt (22 not out) saw their side home after the first five wickets fell with less than 50 on the board.
Of the early batsmen only Joe Clarke contributed with a useful 26 as the visitors made hard work of reaching a meagre target of 150,
Earlier the home side also had their problems, mainly against the returning Anthony O’Connor who claimed the first four wickets to end with 4-48 off 11. Skipper Wendell Wagner grabbed three victims near the end of the innings and there was also a brace for Aucott to complete a good game for the youngster.
Details: Leamington 149 (Bailey 31, Best 29, O’Connor 4-48, Wagner 3-25, Aucott 2-13), Wellington 150-8 (Aucott 32, Delaney 30, Clarke 26, Tilt 22no, Rowe 4-37).
The Firsts are away again this weekend when they visit Barnards Green knowing that, as the league reverts to a straight win/lose situation, victory is vital if we are to close the 31-point gap on second-placed Dorridge.
