Wellington’s ‘Yo-yo’ Season Continues
Inconsistent Wellington were at it again on Saturday.
Match report by Peter Byram
A week ago they bounced back from a miserable performance at Smethwick with a brilliant win over Shifnal. They then travelled full of confidence to Bromsgrove only to crash to a six-wicket defeat.
Batting first the visitors totalled 205-7 in their 55 overs, a total reached thanks to a superb unbeaten century from contracted player Michael Johnson.
Dropped by Worcestershire recently due to lack of runs Johnno can have done his chance of a recall no harm at all as he crafted a superb century, watched by New Road head coach Steve Rhodes.
Next highest contribution was Neil Edwards’ 24 but at the halfway stage it still looked a decent total on a testing pitch.
But Bromsgrove had few problems reaching their target for the loss of only four wickets with ten overs to spare. The watching Rhodes was able to see his son top score with 75 against an attack missing left arm spinners Adam Byram (injured) and Daniel Lloyd (on Bunbury Festival duty).
The 1st XI are away again on Saturday, visiting Old Hill.
