Wellington Get Job Done In A Hurry
The 1st XI bounced back to winning ways with an impressive home win over Ombersley.
Played in horrible conditions with several rain delays, the visitors raced to 103 without loss before wickets began to fall. Adam Byram and Neil Edwards pegged them back and Wendell Wagner picked up three late wickets as Ombersley – a place ahead of us at start of play – were restricted to 196-6 in 52 overs.
Highlight in the field was two brilliant diving catches from young keeper Joe Clarke.
The visitors’ total became a tall order for Wellington, who had only 36 overs to reach their target. But it proved no problem to Neil Edwards, who led the victory charge with a brilliant 70 which came in just over 11 overs
He battered the Ombersley attack to all parts of the ground and the job was completed by Michael Johnson (44 not out) and Ross Aucott (22) as they saw their side home with two overs to spare.
On Wednesday the 1st XI are at home to Penkridge in the third round of the league 20/20 and are also at Orleton Park on Saturday when they host Brewood.
