The headline that says it all. Wellington has always invested in its youth and in its facilities and NOT paid players. The Shropshire League winning side contained no less than seven players who had played in Wellington youth teams. The remaining players are all true Wellingtonians having all been members of the club for many years. The club continues its policy as a completely amateur-based player membership.

| In fact it did cost a great deal of money, but the money
was spent on inproving the facilities at Orleton Park, making Wellington the best place to
play and watch cricket in Shropshire.
With the winning of the Shropshire League, came a very difficult choice, should the club enter the new Birmingham League. It would be a huge step to make but the decision was taken at a special meeting of the club members to join the new league. As the headline shows this decision also saved Shrewsbury from relegation and allowed Broseley to enter the Shropshire League. |
