On June 29th, 1974 Shropshire played Essex.

The report in Wisden was as follows:

Essex won by 139 runs. Edmeades and Hardie gave them a sound start with a partnership of 53, but with the ball comimg through at an uncertain height, most of the remaining batsmen struggled against keen bowling and fielding against the Minor Counties' champions. The Shropshire innings was one long tale of disaster. Lever, the Man of the Match, took four wickets for six runs in his opening spell, and Hobbs, with leg-breaks, completed the collapse for the joint lowestscore in the competition.
