Wendell Passes On The Armband

By David Ross

Club captain Wendell Wagner will step down as captain next season after six years at the helm.

Wellington Cricket Club Cricket Committee would like to inform players and members that first team captain Wendell Wagner is to stand down as club captain ahead of the 2018 season. However, Wendell has committed himself to stay with the club for at least another two years as we look to develop our young first team squad.

We are sure that we are speaking on behalf of everyone at the club in extending our sincere thanks to Wendell for the excellent contribution he has made during his six year tenure as captain. He has led from the front with bat and ball and his contributions have been invaluable in our efforts to sustain our position in the higher reaches of the Birmingham League. Wendell has always “worn the badge” close to his heart and has proved to be a popular and charismatic leader and a positive role model around the club.

Wendell has asked us to convey to club members what an honour it has been for him to captain Wellington Cricket Club and whilst the time feels right to step down as captain his motivation and commitment towards playing cricket at Wellington remains as fierce as ever.

The Cricket Committee are already considering the options open in finding a replacement for Wendell as captain and we hope to bring further news in the very near future.
