Richard was killed in a New Year’s Eve seaplane crash in Australia, along with his two sons William, 25, and Edward, 23, his fiancee Emma Bowden, 48, and her 11-year-old daughter, Heather.
The pilot also died when the plane crashed into a river 30 miles north of Sydney.
Richard, 58, was chief executive of catering giant Compass Group and recently moved from Amersham in Bucks to live in London but still retained his membership of Wellington Cricket Club, where he was a very popular member.
He was a batsman in the club’s Second XI and also Cricket Committee chairman for several years. He lost his wife Caroline to cancer about three years ago.
“It is very tragic news, particularly for those who played cricket with Richard. He had so much to look forward to. On his return from watching the final two Ashes matches he planned to retire at Easter and marry in July,” said Secretary Peter Byram.
Wellington Cricket Club offer their thoughts and prayers to the families of all concerned at this very sad time.
